The Bayou City team is supplemented by highly regarded industry leaders who form an Advisory Board. Members of the Advisory Board have extensive relationships in the industry sectors targeted by Bayou City and are expected to support Bayou City in its sourcing and operating capabilities.

 

Charles Cherington – Senior Advisor

Charles founded Intervale Capital in 2006 after successfully managing two smaller private equity firms focused on buyouts in the energy, transportation and manufacturing sectors. Intervale Capital has over $1 billion under management and is currently investing out of its third energy fund. Charles has over 20 years of private equity experience, and over a decade of investing exclusively in the energy sector. Before launching his first fund, Charles worked for the Vietnam Fund in Hanoi, and for Credit Suisse in New York. Charles received an M.B.A., with honors, from the University of Chicago and a B.A. in History from Wesleyan University.

Charles serves on the BCE Investment Committee.

Gregory Beard – Advisor

Greg is the Head of Natural Resources and Senior Partner at Apollo Global Management. Prior to joining Apollo, Greg was a Managing Director at Riverstone Holdings and lead deal partner in many of the firm’s top commodities-related investments. Prior to joining Riverstone in 2000, Mr. Beard was an associate with Asen and Company, a New York, NY-based investment firm, and prior to that he worked with a Nashville, TN-based investment firm. Mr. Beard began his career as a financial analyst at Goldman Sachs, where he played an active role in the firm's energy-sector principal investment activities. Mr. Beard has served as a director of many oil and gas companies, and he currently serves on the boards of EP Energy, Talos Energy, Pinnacle Agriculture, Double Eagle Energy, Apex Energy, and Athlon Energy, LP. Mr. Beard received his BA from the University of Illinois at Urbana.

Alan Clemens – Advisor

Alan currently serves as a Technical Advisor with Quantum Energy Partners as well as the Chairman of Rio Oil and Gas II, LLC, a Quantum backed portfolio company focused on the acquisition and exploitation of onshore U.S. growth-oriented E&P opportunities. Before forming Rio Oil and Gas, Alan was the Chief of Geology and Geophysics at Quantum. Prior to joining Quantum, Alan served as a member of the Southwestern Energy’s leadership team, as well as, prior experience with Zilkha Energy and Enron Oil and Gas. Alan is a member of AAPG, SEG, the Geophysical Society of Houston, and is a registered professional geoscientist in the State of Texas. Alan holds a B.S. in Geophysical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and an M.B.A. from Houston Baptist University.

Thomas Perich – Advisor

Tom currently serves as the Chairman of Andrews Kurth LLP. Tom has spent nearly 40 years with Andrews Kurth, and previously served as Managing Partner of the firm beginning in 2007. Tom is a practicing lawyer specializing in banking and finance, project finance, structured finance, workouts and restructurings, bank regulatory issues, and lender liability with a particular focus on the energy and real estate industries. Tom holds a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law, an M.A. in Economics from the University of Texas and a B.S.F.S. in International Economics from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service.

James Putt – Advisor

Jim currently consults on Middle East and national security issues. Jim previously worked for a top tier global investment bank and at a major family office advising on security and sovereign/geopolitical risk. Prior to that, Jim served for nearly 20 years in the Central Intelligence Agency's Clandestine Service, as a senior Operations Officer. Jim holds a Certificate of Arabic Studies from the Foreign Service Institute, a B.A. in Economics from Northwestern University, and is a member of the Advisory Board at Flashpoint.

Val Brock – Operating Partner

Val brings over 34 years of line and leadership experience in oil and gas venture management to Bayou City. Val spent 30 years with Shell in the US and Netherlands before joining Kinder Morgan in the US. Prior to joining BCE, Val had formed Bismuth Energy LLC, focused on oil and gas opportunity definition, acquisition, and development.

As Vice President of CO2 Source & Transportation with Kinder Morgan, Val led the world’s largest CO2 development and supply business, meeting the needs for CO2 enhanced oil recovery projects in W Texas, New Mexico, and Utah. Prior to joining Kinder Morgan in 2013, Val served as the leader for Shell’s global technology and business development organization for enhanced and improved recovery methods. Val joined Shell in 1983 from the University of Texas (BSME and MBA), and following petroleum engineering assignments in the US Permian Basin, held various management positions including corporate planning/strategy and oil and gas field exploration, development, and operations both onshore and offshore US.
